Come, walk through the Word.
Paul names sins honestly, but he does not leave people trapped beneath their old names. The gospel speaks a stronger word: washed, sanctified, justified. Come remembering that grace tells the truth and makes lives new.
1 Corinthians 6:9–11
9Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind,
10Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God.
11And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.
Stay with the movement.
Paul refuses deception about patterns that oppose God's kingdom. The list reaches across sexuality, worship, possessions, appetites, speech, and exploitation. No group is given permission to isolate another person's sin while excusing its own.
Then grace interrupts the list: 'such were some of you.' The church is a community of people whose histories are real but no longer final. In the name of Jesus and by the Spirit, they have received cleansing, a holy belonging, and a new standing before God.

Inheritance language points to belonging in God's promised future. Paul calls the church to live now in a way consistent with that coming kingdom.
Paul speaks to a congregation with varied and complicated histories. No believer stands above another as though grace were unnecessary.
The Lord Jesus and the Spirit of God are at work in the believers' new life. Transformation is received before it is faithfully practiced.

Replace one condemning sentence about yourself or another believer with the truthful language of repentance, grace, and a Spirit-enabled new life.

Lord Jesus, thank You for cleansing, sanctifying, and justifying Your people. Keep me honest about sin and even more confident in Your grace. By Your Spirit, teach me to live from the new name You have given. Amen.
